The DeLand Fire Department is gearing up for a community celebration to mark 140 years of serving the City of DeLand.

The community is invited to Station 81, located 343 W. Howry Ave., from 6 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 9th, for a special evening with demos, tours and activities for the whole family.

“This celebration is an opportunity to recognize and honor all the firefighters who served the community past and present,” said Chief Todd Allen. “Here at DeLand Fire we pride ourselves in long-time traditions, so we are thrilled to highlight our rich history over the past 140 years.”

Activities include station tours, rope rescue and tower demos, gear try-on, hose spraying, and goodie bags and hats for the kids.

Families will be able to try on gear, see the fire trucks and get a behind the scenes look at how our department operates. Additionally, historical items and photos will be on display in the Community Room with items dating back to the 1900s. Below is a program of events:

  • Chief opening remarks: 6 p.m.
  • Station tours: 6:15 p.m. and 6:45  p.m.
  • Rope rescue demo: 7:15 p.m.
  • Tower demo: 7:50 p.m.

Founded in 1883, the DeLand Fire Department has achieved numerous accomplishments but becoming the only ISO 1 rated department in Volusia County is the greatest! Our 62 firefighters and staff serve DeLand residents from three stations with Station 81 being the busiest fire station in Volusia County with a response of 8,225 calls for service last year.
